Ofcom Releases Video to Help Consumers Avoid Huge Overseas Mobile Bills
A video, apparently made by a couple of first year film students, featuring hackneyed holiday costumes has been released by Ofcom to advise consumers on how to avert a massive mobile bill while travelling abroad.
Ofcom has released the video, along with a pamphlet, on the heels of the EU’s decision to limit the roaming charges in its member states. The decision is expected to be implemented starting this summer, and is being looked upon as a possible solution to the steep roaming charges, at least as far as travelling inside the EU countries is concerned.
Ofcom’s video features advice, which one might consider obvious, but is clearly not being followed by a large number of travellers. Recently there has been a spate of cases where travellers have run up huge bills, because of a lack of awareness about the charges (click for info on pay as you go mobile broadband).
Since mobile has become one of the everyday necessities of our life, it is certain that it features in most peoples’ list of things to take abroad. The video, which bears the title ‘How to avoid holiday mobile bill blues’ advises consumers to ensure that they can use their mobile and laptop abroad. It also asks them to be clear on what all conditions are applicable when they use their mobile service while travelling.
